生技產業範疇涵蓋製藥產業、醫療器材產業及應用生技產業等。生物科技暨資源學院整合本院及本校各領域專任教師之專長，強化「知識整合」與「產業應用」之結合，落實為產業育才的教育目標。積極培養基礎研究人才、創新產品開發人才、臨床及專案管理人才、專利智財管理之法務人才，及國際行銷人才。據此，本學院的發展特色為(1)整合生物科技與生物資源之知識體系，強化產業導向之跨領域教學，(2)整合研究團隊，重點推動包括藥用真菌產製、生物活性胜肽研發、植物工廠建構、保健食品與化妝品原材料開法等研究(3)開發生物科技與生物資源之技術平台，強化產學合作之應用研究，及(4)創新生物科技與生物資源之產業應用，強化技術加值與商品化。

Biotechnology is one of key technologies that have great impact on the development of global industry in this century; it has continuously influenced people’s lifestyle widely and deeply, especially based on its applied value in various industries. Our department is the one and only academic facility in biotechnology sector that focus and dedicated on R&D state of the art modern biotechnologies and the uses of their applications in industries, including food biotechnology, applied biotechnology and cosmetic biotechnology. There are four degree programs including undergraduate, master, Ph.D. and extension program in Department of Bio-industry technology at DYU. Our goals focus on the integration of teaching, research and academic-industry projects to boost “biotechnology industrialization” and “bioindustry innovation”.

Upon rapidly advancing post-genomic era, molecular biotechnology represents the center for interdisciplinary research. Currently in the Department of Molecular Biotechnology of Da-Yeh University, there are ten full-time faculty members with expertise covering zoological, botanical, and microbiological biotechnology. Teaching courses comprise “Biology”, “Biochemistry”, “Cell Biology”, “Molecular Biology”, “Gene Engineering”, and “Bioinformatics”, etc., covering systematically from basic biotech knowledge to bioindustry application. The department provides sufficient equipment and space for teaching and research, including specific undergraduate laboratories. All faculty members try hard to build the bioindustry-academia links, aggressively seek opportunities of practical training in bioindustry for students, in hope to enhance the competitive capability of students upon graduation. On top of all these features, this department represents the only private institute to get the special training grants from the Ministry of Education for seven consecutive calendar years, together with the Department of Medical Technology from National Taiwan University, and the Department of Life Sciences from National Chung Hsing University. During annually on-site evaluation, committee members are quite satisfied with this department’s efforts and outcomes. In conclusion, to support our commitment to enhancing the comprehensive knowledge and skill needed to cultivate the “scientist of tomorrow”, this department provides excellent teaching, learning, and research environment, which definitely is the top choice for enthusiastic students pursuing their degrees in molecular biotechnology.

The department of bioresources endeavors to establish a sound foundation of partnership among biodiversity, biotechnology and bioindustry. Based on the goals , we provide students’ training not only in basic biology, biological evolution, systematics, conservation, sustainable management and utilization of bioresources including microbes, animal, plant, fishery and ethnobotonical resources, but also on the professionals with talent and skill in survey, monitoring and management of biodiversity.

In recent years, developed countries, such as the U.S.A., Germany and Japan, research and develop various products from natural medicinal plants through modern biotechnology, and expect to combine the healthcare views of Chinese medicine and disease prevention, and also the idea of treatments and ’medicine-diet homology’ in traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs). Theses countries also develop functional health-medicinal-plant products for disease prevention and treatments to be used all over the world. The Department of Medicinal Botanicals and Health Care expects to take part in either the global output value, the product market of medical plants (herbs) or traditional medicines. Expectation of the future aspiration of Taiwan and global health industry from medical plants or traditional medicines, the Department will provide students with, first of all, merged professional knowledge and technical skills of the Eastern and Western medical plant resources, and then the evaluation ability of the resource quality control. The Department will also strengthen students’ R & D cultivation ability of biotechnology, and their ability in using functional medical plant resource and products. Students will also familiarize with specialty in modern biotechnology and management skills with regard to the combination of traditional medical plant industry and healthcare science and technology. The Department will also cultivate students in professional healthcare knowledge of preventive medicine. Finally, students of the Department will also develop ability in the area of research, development, and management of the healthcare bio-products, such as functional foods and cosmetics, from the functional medical plants, and to become a talented person of the professional knowledge and technology management skills.
